Cricket Media Super Sixes - Week 4

The honours were even after last weekend’s Group D matches as the first round of fixtures were completed in the 2012 Cricket Media Super Sixes- each team recording one victory.

The evening started off with the talented Eastern Regional Academy (ERA) youngsters taking on Edinburgh Academicals.  Accies impressed on their return to the competition last year, narrowly missing out on progressing to the final stages.

Their good form continued as they bowled out ERA in the 8th over for a meagre 92- Scotland U17 batsman Zander Muir top scored for the Academy with an unbeaten 33.

Accies gave a measured, watchful reply, taking their time to overtake the ERA score- which they achieved in the penultimate over.  Tom Galbraith was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2-22.

The next match saw a tournament debut for the Wildcats VI against ERA.  The Wildcats were made up mainly from women in the Scottish National squad with two guest players. The Academy youngsters won the toss and elected to bowl first.  The Wildcats VI completed their ten overs with the score on 118-4, with Stirling-duo Josh Edwards and Lois Wilkinson top scored with 34* and 20 respectively.

After failing to bat out all their overs in the first game, ERA knuckled down and handy unbeaten scores of 27 for both Zander Muir and Tom Galbraith sealed the victory over the Wildcats VI by 4 wickets.

It turned out to be a close match in the end between Edinburgh Academicals and Wildcats VI.  Batting first, Accies started slowly with only 35 runs on the scoreboard after 4 overs.  Angus Rive upped the tempo for Accies, contributing 27* to the final team score of 108-3 from 10 overs.

With an achievable target set by the Edinburgh outfit, the Wildcats VI needed to bat sensibly to record their first victory of the evening, which they duly did.  A score of 27* from Phil Rees and a nice partnership between wife and husband, Kari Anderson and Andy Carswell took them past Accies total from the last ball of the ninth over, winning by 2 wickets.

With one win a piece, it’s all to play for when these three teams meet in four weeks’ time to see which team will progress to final night on 2 March.
