Perthshire Sixes
Doo’cot Park will host a local Sixes competition on Saturday 3rd September to bring a thrilling end to the 2011 season. Eight local clubs will take part with Perth Northern and Perth Strathearn taking on Meigle and Kinross in one ‘mini’ league where the top two teams will qualify to the semi finals. There they will face the top two sides from the other league where Perth Mayfield and Almond Valley will face Glendelvine and Rossie Priory.
This is the first time that a Sixes competition in this format has been held at the picturesque ground and should provide a fantastic social day out for both players and spectators alike.
Almond Valley opening bowler Andrew McKenzie is certainly looking forward to the day. “Sixes competitions are always exciting events” he said, “but this one will be especially so, given that we have the opportunity to play against all of our local rivals. The teams taking part have been spread between three divisions in this year’s Strathmore and Perthshire Union leagues, but this competition gives you a great opportunity to get one over your neighbours, and will be a fun way to end the season”.
BBQ’s, a bouncy castle and other entertainment will be on hand on the day and all cricket lovers and former players from all sides are invited down to hopefully enjoy a spectacular and sunny end to the cricket season!
Gavin Davey, Chief Executive, Gannochy Trust commented ‘We hope the Doo’cot Sixes on Saturday will be a springboard for the future of cricket in Perth and inspire the newly formed Perth Doo’cot Cricket Club. We are also looking forward to the seven-day Doo’cot Cricket Festival in June 2012 which will be part of the Gannochy Trust’s 75th Anniversary celebrations.’

Cricket Without Boundaries - Jamie Burton 6’s
Corstorphine’s Jamie Burton is going to Kenya in October to volunteer with Cricket Without Boundaries and has organised a Sixes tournament to raise money for his trip. He will follow in the footsteps of Penicuik’s Stephen Green who last year helped young cricketers in Kenya, Botswana and Rwanda become more aware of HIV/Aids issues through Cricket Without Boundaries.
It will be held at Corstorphine’s Barnton Ground, Edinburgh 3rd September with a noon start.
Jamie said “It’s currently looking like six teams, it will be free to come along and there is a BBQ, raffle with prizes, such as signed Saltires shirt and two-night stay in a luxury Edinburgh apartment”.
If you can’t make the day you can still donate towards Jamie’s cause on his justgiving site which is www.justgiving.com/jamieaburton
Jamie will also be writing a blog throughout his experience which will be published on the Cricket Scotland website.
David Harper calls it a day.
Kelburne Cricket Club is hosting a benefit for David Harper this weekend in recognition of an unparalleled 20 years playing and helping develop Scottish cricket.
The David Harper Testimonial Weekend kicks off at 8.00pm on Saturday at Whitehaugh with a BBQ and disco stretching into the small hours!
On Sunday, the action switches to the middle and a Grand Benefit Cricket Match starting at 1.00pm featuring a host of past and
present Scottish Internationalists and the man himself!
There will also be fun events for all the family, raffles, an auction of cricket memorabilia and an all-day BBQ.
Everyone is welcome to come along and pass on their best wishes to one of, if not the, last true professional servants to grace the Scottish game.
