Strength and Conditioning

National Strength & Conditioning Coach, Simon Smith will deliver a practical workshop and training session entitled Strength & Conditioning For Cricket on Tuesday 13th March. Participants should come prepared to take part (if they wish to) although no particular level of fitness is required for this and the course is open to all. If preferred, coaches can simply watch the exercises and drills and take the ideas and principals back to their clubs. (There is no obligation to participate.) It will undoubtedly be lots of fun having a go at some or all of Simon’s programme and this could benefit lots of players especially early in the season if they can train and work on strength and conditioning drills and exercises that are specifically aimed at cricketers as there is a relatively small amount of Strength & Conditioning expertise available to club coaches and senior players in Scotland.
This session costs £5 per person payable on the night and the venue is also the North Inch Community Campus, Gowan’s Terrace, Perth, PH1 5BF from 6.30-9.00pm.
On Tuesday 20th March, there will be a workshop entitled winter coaching which looks at the games, drills and skills coaches can deliver to junior players. Spin Bowling
The penultimate course is “Coaching Spin Bowling” and is delivered by National Performance Director, Andy Tennant. This course will de-mystify coaching what some regard as a tricky subject and will help coaches understand and communicate the principals of spin bowling in a straightforward and practical format. Coaches will have learn “hands on” and practical ways to coach what can be a wonderful skill and great asset to any cricket team. Andy is one of a handful of level four coaches in Scotland and it is a great experience and very inspirational to work with one of our finest national coaches.
The course costs £5 per person payable on the night. It is held on Tuesday 27th March at the North Inch Community Campus, Gowan’s Terrace, Perth, PH1 5BF from 6.30-9.00pm.
Scoring
The final course is aimed at everyone who has to score for their team. This could be parents,
coaches, young players, or old players, volunteers, or anyone that has had “the book” thrown at them to keep the score. This Introduction to Scoring and Innings is a practical course which was created by Kirsteen Ross herself. The course is suitable for new or occasional scorers. It is a “hands on” practical course where participants will be able to score 6-overs of an innings after learning some of the scoring fundamentals. It is interactive, and fun, and not just a night of boring theory. Don’t worry if you have never scored before – Kirsteen will teach you!
