Following their Test series and ODI tour in England this coming summer, the Sri Lanka cricket team will travel north to play two further One-Day Internationals in Scotland. As in recent European summers, the matches will involve a third team (Ireland) to ensure that the leading European Associate members all have an opportunity to challenge the tourists
.
All three games, on consecutive days, will take place at the Citylets Grange ground in Edinburgh. The first ODI, on Monday July 11, will be between Sri Lanka and Ireland. The two old rivals, Scotland and Ireland, will then compete against each other on Tuesday July 12, with the games being concluded on Wednesday July 13 when Sri Lanka play the hosts, Scotland.
Commenting on this unique tri-series of matches, Roddy Smith, Cricket Scotland's CEO, said: "We are delighted that the Sri Lanka team will be visiting Scotland to play both ourselves and Ireland in ODIs. These games against Full Members are always vital, and will give the Scottish team another opportunity to compete against one of the best sides in the world.
"Following on from the recent visits of England, Australia, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, it will also enable the Scottish cricketing public to see the Sri Lankan team in Scotland for the first time in an official One-Day Iinternational."
Sri Lanka have only once before played in Scotland and only once against Ireland in the Emerald Isle - in 1979, two years before being awarded Test status. The fixtures against Scotland and Ireland were three-day, two-innings matches at Shawholm (Poloc Cricket Club) against Scotland and at Londonderry against Ireland. Both games were drawn.
