SCU President's XI to meet Aberdeen Grades Select

SCU President Bob MacfarlaneSCU President Bob McFarlane will take his team to Mannofield to play an Aberdeen Grades Select as part of the Grade’s 125th anniversary celebrations on Thursday 2 September. This match was originally scheduled for the 15th of July but fell victim to the weather.

Bob is delighted to be taking a team to Aberdeen, to play at Mannofield a ground he has played on many times for Perthshire against Aberdeenshire in the Scottish Counties Championship.

This will be the third time this season that his team will have played, having lost narrowly to Falkland, when Bob was present at Scroggie Park.

His team then defeated Kelburne by three wickets, on Sunday 29 August when former President Jim Young stood in for him, Bob being unavailable due to other presidential commitments.

Kelburne batted first and scored 152 for 8 in 40 overs, with Gregor Maiden top scoring with 68.

In reply the President’s XI made 153 for 7 with Richard Young top scoring with 49 and the winning runs coming from the bat of the evergreen Iain Kennedy who shared eighth wicket partnership with Greenock stalwart Tom Black.

No doubt the President will be keen to see his side come out on top in what should be a keenly contested fifty overs match, starting at 12 noon.

His team, captained by Jan Stander, is drawn mainly from clubs in the north east, with the exception of former Stoneywood-Dyce player Gordon Goudie now playing for West of Scotland.

The Aberdeen Grades Select will be led by Tauqueer Malik of Bon Accord who will have four of his team mates, fresh from retaining their Grade 1 title, in the team.
