With the revamp of the National Leagues into two divisions of sixteen teams from next Season, it was necessary to find two additional teams for the SNCL. It was decided that this would be done as follows:-
The winners from these matches were to be automatically promoted to the SNCL, with the two losing teams playing off against each other and the winners then meeting the bottom club in the SNCL to decide the final place in the 2011 league.
As it transpired, no team from the Borders League wished to be considered for the SNCL, with the result that Edinburgh Academicals, who have qualified from the East League, will now automatically participate in the SNCL Championship Division next season.
Strathearn, from the Strathmore Union, will meet East Kilbride from the Western Union in the other play-off match. This match will take place at Kirkhill, Penicuik, the home of Penicuik Cricket Club on Saturday 4 September (reserve date Sunday 5 September) and will commence at 12 noon.
The losers will then meet Kelburne on Saturday 11 September (reserve date Sunday 12 September) at New Williamfield, Stirling, for the final place.
Edinburgh Academicals have previously played in the SNCL, being relegated at the end of the 2007 season. However, neither East Kilbride nor Strathearn have played in the SNCL, so for either or both it will be a whole new experience for them next season.
