Scottish Student Sport’s autumn of Indoor Cricket Sixes
This autumn, Scottish Student Sport will host three regional indoor 6 a-side qualifying tournaments, which will be held in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Perth in October and November
With the welcome evolution of Universities and Further Education Colleges competing against each other, under the auspices of the governing body Scottish Student Sport, there is a need for three regional qualifying finals in the autumn, before a finals date in the new year. Interest in indoor 6s has grown within student clubs as it is played in the winter months when exam pressures are less evident.
The student cricket outdoor season has always had to contend with being played in a condensed timescale around the main exam period, though the SSS Cricket Group are looking at addressing the make-up of the outdoor competitive season over the coming months.
St Andrews University will be looking to qualify for the national finals day at Mary Erskine School in February after being beaten by Edinburgh University in the Scottish Universities Indoor 6s in February earlier this year. Newcomers to the Indoor 6s include Stevenson College (Edinburgh) and City of Glasgow College, formed from a recent merger of several of the city’s F.E. Colleges.

As well as the SSS programme the BUCS (British Universities & Colleges Sports) Northern Region indoor cricket championships are being hosted in Scotland this weekend. Good luck to Stirling, Aberdeen and Edinburgh Uni’s who fly the Saltire versus Sunderland, Northumbria and Newcastle Uni’s for a place in the stage of the UK-wide competition
